Gene therapy offers a potentially curative treatment option for otherwise un-treatable genetic disease.
These treatments, although promising, require an extensive integrative multi-disciplinary approach to provide optimal care. This challenge falls largely to the multidisciplinary teams of medical geneticists, intensivists, nurses, pharmacists, genetic counsellors and social workers. Designed to empower interdisciplinary teams with foundational knowledge to elevate patient care and optimize treatment outcomes, this online course provides 2.5 hours of self-directed learning that incorporates cases, examples, concepts, and multidisciplinary pathways to care.
As you progress through this module, you will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to confidently:
- Discuss medical and scientific advances in understanding rAAV gene therapy as a means of contributing to multidisciplinary teams implementing gene therapies.
- Integrate best practices from experience and literature to optimize patient outcomes when receiving rAAV gene therapy.
- Consider social determinants of health and their implications on diagnosing, treating, and accessing rAAV gene therapy for rare disease.
- Use effective communication strategies and patient-oriented best practices to deeply engage patients in the process of gene therapy.
